“The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.”
My Notes
What Does Psalms 25:9 Mean?
"The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way." God guides the meek — not the aggressive, not the self-assured, not the ones who already know the answer. The meek. Those who come with open hands and teachable spirits. The word "meek" (anav) means humble, lowly, afflicted — people who've been brought low and know they need help. God's guidance is calibrated to humility.
The parallelism is instructive: guide in judgment (help with decisions) and teach his way (reveal his path). Both require receptivity. You can't be guided if you're already running. You can't be taught if you already know. The meek receive guidance precisely because their posture — humble, low, open — makes reception possible.
Reflection Questions
- 1.Is your current posture before God more meek (open, teachable) or assertive (already decided)?
- 2.What does meekness look like practically when you're asking God for guidance?
- 3.When has 'running out of your own answers' actually positioned you to receive God's?
- 4.What direction are you currently heading that might need to be surrendered before God can guide you?
Devotional
The meek. Not the smart. Not the confident. Not the ones with five-year plans and strong opinions. The meek. The brought-low. The ones who've run out of their own answers and are finally ready to receive someone else's.
God guides the meek in judgment. He teaches the meek his way. The guidance and teaching are connected to the posture. You can't be guided while you're running ahead. You can't be taught while you're already lecturing. The meek are guidable and teachable because they've stopped trying to lead themselves.
Meekness isn't weakness. It's strength under submission. It's the racehorse that has been broken — not broken in spirit but broken in will. The power is still there. The speed is still there. But it's directed by someone else's hands now. The meek haven't lost their capacity. They've surrendered their control.
If you've been asking God for guidance and hearing nothing, the problem might not be God's silence. It might be your posture. Are you asking while already moving in your preferred direction? Are you requesting input while having already decided? The meek get guided because they've actually stopped long enough to be led.
God teaches his way. Not your way adjusted by his input. His way. A completely different route than the one you'd choose on your own. And the only people who receive it are the ones humble enough to admit they don't know the way and brave enough to follow when it's revealed.
