“Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.”
— John 20:16
A devoted follower of Jesus who stood at the cross when others fled and became the first person to see the risen Christ on Easter morning.
Her Story
Mary Magdalene was a woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons, and from that moment she became one of His most devoted followers. She was among the women who supported Jesus' ministry out of their own means. She stood at the foot of the cross when most of the disciples had fled. And on the first Easter morning, she went to the tomb while it was still dark and found it empty. Weeping, she encountered the risen Jesus but didn't recognize Him until He spoke her name: 'Mary.' She turned and cried, 'Rabboni!' — Teacher. Jesus sent her to tell the disciples the good news, making her the first evangelist of the resurrection. In a culture where women's testimony was not valued, Jesus chose a woman to be the first witness of the most important event in history.
