- Verse 27
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”
My Notes
What Does Jeremiah 32:27 Mean?
God asks the most rhetorical question in Scripture: "Is there any thing too hard for me?" The question expects only one answer: no. Nothing. Not one thing. The God of all flesh—every living creature, every human being, every system and structure and situation—has no upper limit on His capacity.
The context makes the question even more powerful: Jeremiah has just bought a field in territory that's about to be conquered by Babylon. It makes no financial sense. The land is worthless. But God told him to buy it as a sign that houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land. Restoration is coming—but it seems impossible given current circumstances. So God asks: is anything too hard for Me?
The title "God of all flesh" (Elohei kol basar) establishes universal authority. God doesn't govern just Israel, or just the spiritual realm, or just the nice parts of creation. All flesh. Every living thing. Every human government, every natural system, every biological process answers to Him. When the God of all flesh asks whether anything is too hard, the answer encompasses every domain of reality.
Reflection Questions
- 1.What situation in your life currently feels too hard—even for God? Name it specifically.
- 2.If God is the 'God of all flesh,' what area of your life have you been treating as outside His jurisdiction?
- 3.Jeremiah bought a field in a war zone because God said restoration was coming. What 'impossible investment' might God be asking you to make?
- 4.How would you live differently today if you truly believed nothing is too hard for God?
Devotional
"Is there any thing too hard for me?" God asks this question at exactly the moment when everything looks impossible. The Babylonian army is besieging Jerusalem. Jeremiah just bought a field in conquered territory—an act that makes zero financial sense. And God asks the question that reframes everything: is anything too hard for Me?
This isn't God asking because He's curious. He's asking because you need to hear the answer. No. Nothing. Not one thing. Not the diagnosis the doctor gave. Not the marriage that's falling apart. Not the addiction that won't let go. Not the financial crisis that seems permanent. Not the relationship that seems unredeemable. Not the dream that seems dead. Nothing is too hard for the God of all flesh.
The phrase "God of all flesh" is the theological foundation of the question. He's not just God of spiritual things. He's God of all flesh—your body, your circumstances, your material reality, your physical world. The situation that seems too physical, too practical, too mundane for God's attention? He's the God of that too. He governs all flesh, which means your flesh, your problems, your impossibilities are all within His jurisdiction.
Jeremiah's field purchase was an act of faith in the impossible: buying real estate in a war zone because God said restoration was coming. What impossible thing is God asking you to invest in? What looks senseless by current standards but makes perfect sense if God's promise is true? Is there anything too hard for Him? Then act accordingly.
