“For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”
My Notes
What Does Revelation 19:2 Mean?
Heaven confirms the righteousness of God's judgments: true and righteous are his judgments. The great whore who corrupted the earth with her fornication has been judged, and God has avenged the blood of his servants.
The declaration comes from the vast multitude in heaven (v.1) — the collective witness of the redeemed affirming that what God did was right. The judgment is not questioned. It is celebrated.
"He hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth" — the corruption was real and widespread. The system that seduced nations into spiritual adultery has been judged. The corruption was not just personal. It was global.
"Hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand" — the servants who were killed by the corrupt system have been vindicated. Their blood cried out. God heard. And the avenging has arrived.
The celebration of judgment may seem harsh — but it is the celebration of justice. The victims of corruption are vindicated. The oppressors are held accountable. And heaven declares: this is true and righteous.
Reflection Questions
- 1.How is celebrating judgment different from celebrating destruction?
- 2.What does 'true and righteous' mean for the quality of God's justice?
- 3.How does the avenging of the servants' blood bring comfort to those who have been oppressed?
- 4.Where do you long for God's 'true and righteous' judgments to arrive?
Devotional
True and righteous are his judgments. Heaven evaluates God's justice and declares it true — accurate, matching reality. And righteous — fair, just, without error. The multitude does not question the severity. It affirms the justice.
He hath judged the great whore. The corrupt system — the spiritual and economic prostitution that seduced nations — has met its end. The corruption that seemed invincible has been judged by the one judge who cannot be corrupted.
Hath avenged the blood of his servants. The servants who suffered. The martyrs who were killed. The faithful who paid with their lives for opposing the system. Their blood has been avenged. Not forgotten. Not overlooked. Avenged.
Heaven celebrates this. Not with bloodlust. With justice-hunger satisfied. The victims have been vindicated. The oppressors have been held accountable. And the multitude that includes the formerly oppressed says: Alleluia. True and righteous.
If you have been victimized by corrupt systems — religious, political, economic — this verse says justice is coming. The one who judges is true and righteous. The blood of his servants has not been forgotten. And the day of accounting will arrive.
Alleluia.
