“Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
My Notes
What Does 1 Peter 3:7 Mean?
Peter instructs husbands to dwell with their wives "according to knowledge" — with understanding, awareness, and sensitivity to who she is. The instruction is relational intelligence: know your wife and live with her accordingly.
"Giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel" has been widely debated. The word "weaker" (asthenesteros) may refer to physical vulnerability, social vulnerability in the ancient world, or general recognition that both partners carry fragility. The instruction is to honor, not to condescend.
"Being heirs together of the grace of life" establishes equality in spiritual standing. Whatever differences exist in role or strength, the inheritance is shared. Before God, they are co-heirs.
"That your prayers be not hindered" adds a consequence: how you treat your spouse affects your spiritual life. Dishonoring your wife disrupts your connection with God. The relational and the spiritual are inseparable.

Devotional
Dwell with them according to knowledge. Know your wife. Not in the abstract — specifically. Know what she needs, what she fears, what makes her feel valued, what makes her feel diminished. And live accordingly.
Giving honour unto the wife. Honor is not occasional compliments. It is a posture — treating her as someone of worth, publicly and privately, in how you speak to her and about her.
The phrase "weaker vessel" has caused confusion and harm when read as inferiority. Peter's point is the opposite: the vessel that is more delicate requires more careful handling, not less respect. You honor what is precious. You are gentle with what is valuable.
Heirs together of the grace of life. Whatever differences exist, the inheritance is shared. Before God, you stand on equal ground.
That your prayers be not hindered. This is the sobering part: how you treat your wife shows up in your prayer life. You cannot dishonor the person sleeping next to you and expect your prayers to flow freely. The horizontal relationship affects the vertical one.
