Isaiah 44:7

Isaiah 44:7
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.

My Notes

What Does Isaiah 44:7 Mean?

God challenges every rival: who can do what I do? Who can call events, declare them, set them in order, from the beginning? Since I appointed the ancient people, who has announced what's coming? The challenge is prophetic: God's unique ability is to declare the future before it happens. No one else can.

The phrase "since I appointed the ancient people" means God's prophetic track record began with the creation of Israel. Since He established the first covenant people, He's been calling events in advance. The ancient people (olam) are the starting point. Everything that followed was declared from that foundation.

"Let them shew unto them" — the challenge is issued to every other claimant: if you're a god, predict the future. Show the things that are coming. Declare what shall come. The test of divinity is prophecy: can you see what hasn't happened yet and announce it accurately? God can. No one else can. That's the argument.

Reflection Questions

  • 1.Does the prophecy test (predict the future accurately) convince you of God's uniqueness among all claimed deities?
  • 2.How does God's prophetic track record (declaring events from the beginning) build your confidence in His unfulfilled promises?
  • 3.Does the open challenge ('let them show what's coming') produce the silence Isaiah describes?
  • 4.What fulfilled prophecy in your life most powerfully demonstrates that only God sees the future?

Devotional

Who can do what I do? Who has called events from the beginning? Who can announce what's coming? The challenge is open. No one answers.

God issues the definitive test of divinity: predict the future. Call events before they happen. Declare what's coming with accuracy. Set things in order from the beginning. If you're a god, do what God does: see the end from the start and announce it in advance.

The challenge goes to every idol, every rival, every competing claim to deity. And the challenge is unanswered. Because no idol has ever predicted the future. No false god has ever declared what's coming. No human-made deity has ever called events from the beginning. The test is specific and the results are definitive: only God passes.

"Since I appointed the ancient people" — God's prophetic track record begins with Israel. From the moment He established His covenant people, He started declaring what would happen next. Abraham → Isaac → Jacob → Egypt → Exodus → Wilderness → Land. Each stage declared in advance. Each prophecy fulfilled on schedule. The track record is as old as the nation.

"Let them shew" — the invitation is open. Any rival god is welcome to demonstrate prophetic capability. Announce the future. Show the things to come. The test is standing. And no one has passed it. Not Marduk. Not Baal. Not Dagon. Not Molech. Not any god in any temple in any nation in any century.

The unique proof of the living God is fulfilled prophecy: He says what will happen before it happens. And it happens exactly as He said. The test is simple. The evidence is overwhelming. And the silence from every rival is the loudest testimony.

Who is like God? The silence answers: no one.
