Psalms 91:15

Psalms 91:15
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

My Notes

What Does Psalms 91:15 Mean?

God speaks a promise through the psalmist with three movements: he shall call upon me and I will answer — the prayer is heard. I will be with him in trouble — the presence is in the difficulty, not after it. I will deliver him and honour him — the rescue comes with recognition.

The sequence matters: call, answer, presence, deliverance, honour. The process does not skip from calling to deliverance. There is a middle — being with him in trouble. God is present in the valley before the rescue comes.

"I will deliver him" — the deliverance is promised, not immediate. The trouble is real. The presence is immediate. The deliverance comes in its time.

"And honour him" — the one who called and was answered and endured with God in trouble is honored. Not just saved but honored — recognized, valued, elevated. The trouble produced something God honors.

Reflection Questions

  • 1.How does the sequence — answer, presence, deliverance, honour — describe your experience of waiting on God?
  • 2.What does 'I will be with him in trouble' mean for the gap between prayer and rescue?
  • 3.Where are you in the sequence right now — calling, being present with, or approaching deliverance?
  • 4.How does knowing God honours those who endure change your perspective on the trouble?

Devotional

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him. Call. And the answer comes. Not maybe. Will. The prayer is guaranteed a response.

I will be with him in trouble. Before the deliverance. Before the rescue. In the trouble. God does not wait at the exit of the valley. He walks through it with you. His presence is in the difficulty, not just after it.

I will deliver him, and honour him. The deliverance is coming. But notice it is the third thing, not the first. First: answer. Second: presence in trouble. Third: deliverance. The process includes the middle — the part where God is with you but the trouble has not yet ended.

And honour him. The one who called, waited, endured with God in the valley, and was delivered — that person is honored. The trouble was not wasted. It produced something God recognizes with honor.

If you are in trouble right now — calling and not yet seeing deliverance — you may be in the middle of the sequence. God has answered. He is with you. The deliverance is third in line. And the honour follows the endurance.

Call. He will answer. He is with you. The deliverance and the honour are on their way.
